I was sitting in the courtyard for breakfast this morning. Christopher was sitting at the table next to me. I sneezed and he said "bless you" in return. I think that was a nice gesture of him, and I initiated a conversation "what brings you to San Jose?". He is here for a conference on geography because he writes for the Journal of Latin American Geography, and he has been working in Puerto Rico to rebuild the city after the hurricane of last Sept. In fall, he will be flying back to NYU to teach a course. Most interestingly, he published a book, which is great because I had wanted to understand how to publish a book. I googled him on the spot, and he wasn't lying lol.

He then shared some of his travel stories; he hitchhiked his way from Nicaragua to New York in 6 months. Along the way, he was hijacked in a bus somewhere in Central America during a riot when the NAFTA agreement was established in 1995. He travelled to find out the truth about the world when Wikipedia was inexistent in the 90’s. In the media world, Christopher Gaffney is known as someone who strongly opposes the Olympics and World Cup for its huge spending and infrastructure.

San Jose is not the cleanest city...there are lots of garbage on the streets, sidewalks are broken, etc. There isn't much to see in the city, besides the National Museum which was well constructed with a nice view. The food was quite tasty and cheap, and the ceviche was yummy!
